Hey everyone! I have spent the day hard at work studying for exams (have my first one tomorrow) and so I am just going to give you a sneak peek of what I have been working on :)

This is a cake that Johnny and I made using the Cricut Cake machine to cut out all the decorations. I have LOTS more photos and details, but I won't get them posted until tomorrow afternoon. I just wanted to show ya the first cake!!!

I'm So Thankful

**This is my second post for the day**

Well, I decided to take a look at my stats since I am about to reach 150,000 visitors (tomorrow hopefully!) and, man, am I in utter disbelief! I don't check my stats very often (can't remember the last time I looked, maybe around Christmas? Not sure!!) but I do watch my visitor count and we are fast approaching 150,000!!

The map is kinda squished but click on it and you will be able to see a better photo. Do you see all the countries in green? Those are the countries of the people who visit my blog! 88 Countries altogether! Isn't that crazy?!
Of course, I mean crazy in the best possible sense :) I just can't believe that Scrapmaster's Paradise reaches so many countries! I am so humbled and just so thankful for everyone who stops by to visit.

Thank you for giving me a place to feel like I make a difference. I love crafting and I love it even more now that I have some way to share it with you. People write to me and tell me how much I have inspired them, but the truth is, YOU inspire me! I really don't think you will ever understand how touched I truly am.

And now I have a great surprise coming in May to celebrate!! You will not believe what I have in store to give away! HA HA HA HA I am so excited I almost can't contain myself. Keeping secrets is so hard! Oh, it is going to be GOOD!! (Seriously, I am THE worst at Christmas time, I buy all my presents for people as late as I can because it is so hard for me to not give them to everyone early, I try to get everyone to open presents early ha ha ha, and of course I hate not knowing what my presents are LOL)

Bicycle Card

Hello everyone!!

Today was my first day babysitting my new kiddos!! I am going to be babysitting two little twin boys one day a week in the summer. OMGosh, we had the most fun ever! They were so sweet and we even got to paint together :) It was really fun but I was very tired when I got home LOL. They are full of energy.

Today, I have a card for ya! This card was made with a Stampin' UP SNEAK PEEK stamp set called Pedaling Past. This stamp set will be available starting May 1st with the Summer Mini catalog. The sentiment and the bike came from this set.

  • The bicycle and sentiment are both from the Stampin' UP Pedaling Past stamp set.
  • The border on the whisper white cardstock was made with the Stampin' UP Eyelet Border Punch.
  • The bicycle was colored in with Copic Ciao markers from iCopic
  • The sentiment was stamped onto Garden Green cardstock and punched out with an oval punch and then layered on a scalloped oval punch.
  • I added some rhinestone brads to the tires for a little bling :)
  • Finally, I added some faux stitching using the Mat Pack and Paper Piercer! I love the way the Mat Pack makes the great stitchwork!

  • Pedaling Past stamp set (available May 1st from the Summer Mini)
  • Mat Pack
  • Paper Piercer
  • Brocade Blue cardstock
  • Garden Green cardstock
  • Whisper White cardstock

New Poll Posted

Well you can see, I have a new poll posted in the sidebar (on the top left)  <<<<<<--that way!

The fiance called right as I was getting it posted so it was time for me to leave the library and meet up with him so I didn't get a chance to talk about it :)

I was really REALLY impressed that 105 people voted in my cake poll and I thought, "Hey this could be kinda fun!" so I am trying to see if y'all would enjoy a weekly poll. Please take a second and pick an option so I can see how much interest there is. I thought this could be a good way to get more interactive.

Birthday Wishes Card

Hello everyone! I hope you are having a fabulous Tuesday! I have one more day of classes and then finals and I feel absolutely great about that!! Skyeler, the husky, is doing wonderfully (so far) so hopefully the medicine is working.

Today, I have another Awash with Flowers card to share with you. This was a fun one to do because I got to use a lot of the different stamps in the Awash with Flowers stamp set. Remember, this stamp set is available for a sneak peek purchase only until the end of the month! There is a link below to full details on the sale (including 20% off of some other two step stamping stamp sets!), be sure to check it out!!

I was inspired to make this card because when I first heard about the Color Renovation that Stampin' UP is going to do. I decided to get out my Baja Breeze ink and this card just happened! LOL

Now I must tell you, my absolute most favorite part of this card is the dots across the top!!!  I had just received my Signo White Gel Pen (that Stampin' UP sells) and I went to town with it! Now, if you want a white gel pen, this is THE white gel pen to have. I have tried many other white gel pens with mixed results but this one is STUNNING. The white really shows up!! And it writes so smoothly and the lines are continuous (you know how gel pens sometimes give out on ya, so frustrating!!) I was so happy with the results I got with this gel pen. Make sure to add one to your next Stampin' UP order because it is truly fantastic! You will be seeing me use this gel pen a lot more.

Anyway, enough praise for the gel pen. . .
  • All the flowers parts are stamps from the Stampin' UP Awash with Flowers stamp set, and they were stamped using my Stamp-a-ma-jig to help with perfect placement. I actually used 7 different flower parts (one stem that was used for the two larger flowers, the tiny flower outline/stem, the two big flower outlines, and then 3 bold flower images for the pops of color.)
  • TIP: The Awash with Flower two step stamps are not meant to be perfectly aligned. Meaning the colorful part is not going to fit perfectly inside the outlined part of each flower. They are meant to be a little bit off. That is part of this stamp set's whimsical charm :)
  • The sentiment was stamped from the upcoming Watercolor Trio stamp set. This stamp set is GORGEOUS and I will be showcasing it for my Stamp Set of the Week shortly! This stamp set will be available from the Summer Mini Stampin' UP Catalog starting on May 1st.
  • The base of this card is Bermuda Bay cardstock.
  • I used the following ink colors: Melon Mambo, Baja Breeze (will be coming back in July!!), Basic Black, and Bermuda Bay (will be retiring in July).
  • The dots across the top were made with my Stampin' UP Signo White Gel Pen (LOVE IT!!).

Thanks so Much Card

Hello everyone! Happy Monday!!

I got a lot of packages mailed out today to my Spring Cleaning winners! Whew, I still have more to go, but I am almost done!! LOL I am so glad to get these items shipped out to my winners.

Welcome to Awash with Flowers week! This week, I am going to be featuring projects using the Awash with Flowers stamp set. This stamp set is available as a sneak peek stamp set through the end of the month! Get your stamp set while you can :)  It will be available in the next big catalog so you will still have a chance if you miss out this time.

Today, I have a simple card to share with you. Well, I guess it isn't too simple, but the stamping part is simple :) There is also a SNEAK PEEK on this card!!

The background was the hardest part of this card. I used the Shaving Cream Technique to make the background (Click the technique name to see my tutorial!) I used Pink Pirouette, Rich Razzleberry, and Melon Mambo reinkers.

  • The flower was actually made with three separate stamps from the Awash with Flowers stamp set. This set is really cool because you can layer the flowers all awesomely! This is a HUGE stamp set with a bunch of different stamps to layer.
  • The sentiment was stamped from the upcoming Watercolor Trio stamp set that will be available starting May 1st in the Summer Mini catalog.
  • I used my Stamp-a-ma-jig to like up the sentiment perfectly.

I LOVE Cake!!

So since the majority of my voters said that they want my cake projects posted in a separate blog, I have created a brand new blog just for you!! I am not going to be dedicating as much time or effort to my cake blog, but I will be working on it on a semi-regular basis. Click the banner below to go to my new Cake blog.

Updates

Hello everyone!!

This week coming up is my last week of class and everything seems to be winding down. I have been majorly stressing and now I am OK again. I am going to be playing catch up on a few things this week, but I am going to do my best on coming back to the daily blogging world, starting tomorrow.

I have a GREAT update on my doggie Skyeler! We aren't completely out of the danger zone yet, but at least we have a treatment plan to work with. Skyeler is now on heavy duty steroids and heavy duty antibiotics. She is still very tired and weak, but she is acting more like her old LOUD self (if you don't know about huskies, let me tell you, they are VOCAL, I should record some clips for you, LOL they are a blast!). Anyway, so we are working with the vet and hopefully this will do the trick. She isn't even being hospitalized at this point so that is really good!  Most likely she will have to remain on steroids of some sort for the rest of her life because her allergies are so awful.

As for my blog, I am going to continue to showcase my chosen Stampin' UP Stamp set of the week, but over the summer, I want to add in a lot more scrapbooking since I will have a lot more time on my hands with school being out (naturally, scrapbooking is more time consuming than card making, at least for me!). I really want to get puppy Emma's first year photos done and I have a lot of other photos to get scrapbooked. So I am going to really try to pump out some scrapbook layouts for you to see. Also, I will be working on my CAKES!! I will have some more news about this very shortly :)

Taking a break

So I have some more news about my dog Skyeler. It is not good. The results came back from her lung cultures and she has pseudomonas aeruginosa infecting her lungs and sinus cavity. This is often times deadly when it infects major organs in the body. People can get this too, and it can be deadly in people too. This microbe is one that is resistant to a lot of antibiotics so it is a super bug.

The lab working on Skyeler's case is still working with the culture to hopefully find a cure for her. We will know in the next few days what the treatment options are.

I never thought this would be as serious as it has become and I am completely at a loss for what to say and do. I am going to do be a little sporadic with my blogging for a little while because I am trying to spend more time with her. I just wanted to let y'all know what was going on in case I miss a post or two. I also have an exam this week and a presentation to get ready for, and you know college stuff comes before blogging. :(

To my Winners: I will get your goodies mailed out as soon as I can. They will all be on the way shortly! I have another giveaway I hope to get posted very soon.

I am still crafting because that is my stress relief. I also have some stuff in the works so stay tuned.

Skyeler is the one on the left, Mya is in the center and I am on the right:

I have also stepped down from some of my design team commitments.

Cake Part 1

**I am on a ProvoCraft/Cricut Boycott! They won't get another dime from me! Got a Cricut? Well use it! Don't have one yet? Consider a different machine!! Click here for more details about my boycott and how I got here!! You can join the boycott too!**

Hello everyone!

I am so excited for my Cricut Cake to arrive that I went ahead and started baking! LOL  I have grand ideas about how I am going to try to decorate cakes and I have been doing lots of cake research because I really want my cakes to taste good and look good. I have been hearing about how marshmallow fondant tastes much better than regular fondant so I am going to try playing around with that next (I ran out of powdered sugar for now though LOL).

It has been a fun journey so far. I have learned a lot and I plan on sharing some tips and tricks along the way. On my cake journey, but before I do, I have a poll for you in the sidebar (top left) PLEASE PLEASE take a moment to answer the question because your enjoyment is very important to me. So please take a second or two to answer the question with which option you like.

Now here is my first attempt at buttercream icing. I found a great recipe that many people have recommended to me. It is IndyDebi's Buttercream icing. The recipe can be found by clicking here! I used vanilla in my icing and it turned out tasting really nice. The recipe was super easy to follow.

Smoothing it however was NOT as easy! I ended up using the wrong blade on my KitchenAid mixer and so I got a lot of air mixed into the icing, which made it hard to smooth. I did my best and this is what came out.

(Edited to add recipes to the bottom!)

I think I did pretty good for my first time using an Icing Spatula and a turn table! The icing was dyed green because I love colors :)

The cake is a simple devil's food cake recipe and I made two 6inch rounds.

And it was DELICIOUS!!!!

Buttermilk Devil's Food Cake Recipe (adapted from the Cake Mix Doctor by Anne Byrn)
Ingredients:
  • Solid Vegetable Shortening for greasing pans
  • Flour for dusting pans
  • 1 package (18.75 ounces) plain devil's food cake mix (I used Dunkin Hines cake mix from Target for $0.87)
  • 3 tablespoons dark chocolate unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 & 1/3 cup  2%milk (buttermilk was used in original but we were out! LOL)
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oli
  • 3 large eggs
Steps:
  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Grease and dust pans. Set aside.
  2.  Place all ingredients in large mixing bowl and mix on low speed for 1 minute.
  3. Scrap down sides and beat on medium speed for 2 minutes. Scrap down the sides again if needed. The batter should be thick and well blended.
  4. Fill up cake pans half full and smooth out batter until it is even.
  5. Bake for 30-35 minutes until toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean.  (I used 6 inch rounds and it took about 33 minutes for my cakes to be completely cooked.)

Indydebi’s Crisco-Based Buttercream Icing

Ingredients

  • 1-1/3 cups Cricso
  • 1/3 to 1/2 cup milk, depending on consistency needed
  • 3 Tbsp powdered Dream Whip (*)
  • 2-3 Tbsp clear vanilla, depending on your personal taste
  • 2 lbs powdered sugar (*) A powdered whipped topping mix made by Kraft Foods, usually found in the cake/sugar aisle in the grocery.

Instructions

There’s no wrong way to mix this. I usually mix all but the powdered sugar for a minute or two, then gradually add the sugar, but the only reason I did this was to avoid the “sugar-splash” factor. The longer the mixer runs, the smoother it gets. Sifting the powdered sugar before blending helps with smoothness but is not necessary.

Gift Certificate Winners and a Surprise!!!

I decided rather than giving way just ONE gift certificate, I would go ahead and give out TWO!!!!

The following two winners will each receive a $10 gift certificate from me to spend on Stampin' UP goodies. This must be redeemed through me only.

Winners Chosen!!

Toy Story Cricut Cartridge

Another Sneaky Peek for you!! ISN't THAT AWESOME?!?!?!  A Toy Story Cricut cartridge sneak peek!!

Cricut Cake Q & A

Hey everyone!  I am so excited about my Cricut Cake and it looks like some of you are too! I wanted to open the door for any and all Cake related questions. If you have questions about the Cake machine or cakes in general, please email me or leave me a comment below and I will try my best to answer your question once my machine arrives.

I am NOT a pro cake decorator, actually on the contrary, I am a complete novice!! I have baked and decorated a few cakes in my life, but they have been few and far between. I am an avid baker, but never really ventured into decorating. I am going to do my best to teach myself and you along the way.

I am going to be testing out lots of different recipes (both decorating recipes like fondant and gum paste, etc, AND different cake recipes as well) and I will keep you posted. I am a total novice at this so I am going to try it all. I might be a bit naive but I think cakes can look awesome AND taste awesome too so that is what I am going to strive for :)

What is difference between the Cricut Cake machine and the Expression? Do I need them both?
They are VERY different and I think if you want to decorate food, you need them BOTH.  The Expression can be converted into a cake decorating machine, but the Cake machine is specifically designed for cake decorating.  It has a lot of special parts so that you can use it with food more easily.  If you were to convert a regular Expression machine into a cake decorating machine, then it would no longer be good to use with paper because of all the grease and food particles that would be stuck within the machine.  I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to get paper bits in my cakes or cake bits in my scrapbooks!!!

What is fondant?
(From Wikipedia) "Rolled fondant or fondant icing, is commonly used to decorate wedding cakes. It includes gelatin (or agar in vegetarian recipes) and food-grade glycerine, which keep the sugar pliable and creates a dough-like consistency. It can also be made using powdered sugar and melted marshmallows. Rolled fondant is rolled out like a pie crust and used to cover the cake. This gives the cakes a smooth appearance."

What is gum paste?
(From Wikipedia)  "Sugar Paste icing is a very sweet edible sugar dough usually made from sugar and glucose. It is sometimes referred to as fondant or sugar gum or gum paste. It can be used to cover cakes, mould features, create decorations for cakes and many other uses."

New Cricut Carts Coming!!

Well, so far there is only a sneak peek but here it is!!  It looks like there is going to be a boy cart, a girl cart, a cat cart!!!! And more, I don't even know!! Click on the image for a larger photo.

My Dog Almost Died Today

Thankfully she made it through. I know many of you have been asking about updates on her so I wanted to fill ya in.

(this is a photo of her when she was a pup)

Today, she had a procedure done to culture some of the microbes that are growing in her respiratory tract. They thought she had pneumonia, and she's had several courses of antibiotics, xrays, blood tests, and many many visits to our vet. Well nothing has worked and nothing has been found. We've ruled out tons of things. She just coughs and breathes heavily and lays around all the time. It has been weeks and weeks and it is hard to just sit back and not be able to do anything to really help her.

Well today was the day they finally were able to have the procedure! (In order to get the cultures, she has to be off antibiotics for a week so it has just been a waiting game).

The vet warned us in the beginning that this procedure was especially dangerous since she is already having trouble breathing (because they have to put her under with general anesthetic). So all day I have been a total mess worried about her. We just lost Taylor last March and I still miss her every day. I don't think my heart can take another loss. I have been a total train wreck over this. I am just so thankful that my baby made it through. They said she seized twice probably due to lack of oxygen and had to give her oxygen multiple times. I just got to pick her up from the vet.

My poor little baby is now home and sleeping. She is under my close supervision and I will continue to keep you updated. Thank you for all your kind words and prayers. She sure needs them!

We should get some results on the cultures in the coming week. It takes a while to grow them and then find out how to kill them!

It is times like these that make me stop and be thankful for what's important!

Last Note for the Day

Gosh today I have been a blogging machine! LOL I promise this will be my last post for the day (I know some people dislike multiple posts so I apologize for it!)

I will start shipping some of the items out TODAY!!! I have some of the packages all ready to drop off at the post office and some of them will be dropped off tomorrow. I have a LOT of packages to get in the mail so it will take me a week to get through to everyone. Hang in there!

I am Getting THE Cake!

**I  am on a ProvoCraft/Cricut Boycott! They won't get another dime from me!  Got a Cricut? Well use it! Don't have one yet? Consider a different  machine!! Click here for more details about my boycott and how I got here!! You can join the boycott too!**

Ok so this is pretty much totally not scrap related, but bear with me!!  I just ordered the Cricut Cake Machine!!!!!!  I have been trying to learn everything I can about this awesome machine because I have grand dreams of baking gorgeous cakes and cookies and oh gosh, I just have so many ideas!!!

This is a very early birthday present. It is going to be from Johnny and my mom. They really didn't want me to get it, because they think it is kind of weird, but my goal is to convince them that it is worth it by making them a delicious cake! HA HA HA  I can't wait to finally see it in real life and play! It is going to be fun! I will keep ya posted and I plan on doing some special Cake segments in the future :)

THANK YOU MOM!! THANK YOU JOHNNY!!

The only thing scrap related is. . . the Cricut cartridges are interchangeable for ALL CRICUT MACHINES so that mean, I can decorate cakes with the cartridges I already have AND I can cut paper with the cake cartridges!  Cricut is starting a whole line of cartridges specifically geared towards cake decorators but they still have awesome images for paper crafters as well so I plan on using them for both.

And here is a shot of the Cake Basics cartridge!

It also came with the Elegant Cakes cartridge. I don't have a photo of that one handy though.

Google Translator to come

Hello everyone!!  I hope you are having a happy Wednesday!

I have been getting lots of comments recently and this one today struck me. . . partially because it was written in another language (which does happen to me from time to time), but partially because of the message in the comment:

Maria left me this comment:
"¡Muy lindo blog, lleno de cosas! pero sería bueno que tuvieras un traductor dentro del mismo, para que las personas de otros países que te visitamos podamos leer lo que escribes. Muchos cariños"

My Spanish isn't the best, but I do know a little Spanish. Basically the important part of this is she is hoping that I will translate so that people in other countries can read what I am writing.

Well that is a darn good idea!!!  I am going to figure out how to get google translator to work on my blog. Honestly, I knew that people from other countries do come to visit because I can check my visitor stats but I just never took the time to figure out how to get a translator on here. So Maria, I am going to try my best to get a translator on my blog so that you will be able to read what I have written!!  Thank you for visiting.

Muchas gracias!  :)
